The Science of Neurogenic Tremoring

At its core, Neurogenic Tremoring taps into the autonomic nervous system, triggering involuntary, neurogenic tremors to release deeply embedded tension and stress. This phenomenon is present in all mammals and rooted in the body’s natural capacity to heal.

The tremors are initiated in the autonomic nervous system and involve both the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches. Under chronic stress or trauma, the sympathetic nervous system—responsible for the body’s fight-or-flight response—can become overstimulated, leaving the body in a constant state of high alert. Additionally, when the body faces overwhelming stress, the dorsal vagal response can lead to a freeze or shutdown state, to cope with extreme stress or trauma. Neurogenic Tremoring helps by completing stress responses in the sympathetic or freeze/immobilization nervous system within the context of the safety of the ventral vagal system – the “rest and digest” response.

Early research suggests tremoring may help lower cortisol (a stress hormone) and support vagal tone — a sign the body is shifting into its calmer, “rest and digest” mode. The research is still growing, and you can explore it on our research page.

The key mechanism of action lies in the body’s neurogenic tremors, which are spontaneous, rhythmic muscle contractions that bypass conscious control. These tremors occur at a neuromuscular level. This deep, involuntary release allows the body to return to a state of equilibrium, both physically and emotionally.

A growing body of work in neuroscience and psychophysiology is exploring how tremoring supports stress and trauma recovery — including how it may help calm the body’s stress-response system, ease a state of being constantly on edge, and build resilience over time. Much of this research is still early, and we share it openly on our research page.

In essence, the science of Neurogenic Tremoring offers a bottom-up approach to healing. It allows the nervous system to reset, helping individuals process and release stress, tension and trauma.
